Eccopisa effractella (Zeller, 1848) has a wingspan that ranges from 14 to 16.5 mm (0.55 to 0.65 inches). This species has brown forewings, black or dark brown eyes, and yellowish labial palps. Its hindwings are pale brown. Male individuals of this species have a distinct cutout on the half of the front edge of the hindwing. This species is found across most of Europe, including the British Islands, and is absent from Fennoscandia, Ireland, and Estonia. Its distribution range extends from western Portugal, through Central, Southern, and Eastern Russia. To the south, its range reaches Italy and Greece. These moths live primarily in cultivated areas within gardens and parks.
