About Dysgonia torrida Guenée, 1852

This species, Dysgonia torrida Guenée, 1852, has a wingspan of 45–50 mm. Its coloration is highly variable, and the body is red-brown. On the forewing, the antemedial line is erect, with a broad, slightly suffused white band located just beyond it. The postmedial line is angled between veins 3 and 4, and runs sinuously toward the inner margin. The apical streak is split into two separate spots. The hindwings have a white medial band, and the outer margin is greyish at its center. This species produces multiple generations each year. In Europe, adult moths are active on the wing in May to June, and again in September. The larvae feed on Zea mays (family Poaceae), and on Ricinus communis and Acalypha wilkesiana (family Euphorbiaceae).
