Dysdera crocata C.L.Koch, 1838 is a spider species commonly known as the woodlouse spider, as it primarily preys on woodlice. It has several other common names that relate to its prey: woodlouse hunter, sowbug hunter, sowbug killer, pillbug hunter, and slater spider. This species originally came from the Mediterranean region, but it now has a cosmopolitan distribution. Its range extends across Eurasia, and also covers parts of North America, South America, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In North America, it is the only member of the Dysdera family that has been recorded.
