About Dynastes neptunus (Quensel, 1805)

Dynastes neptunus (Quensel, 1805) has a black body, with a total length ranging from 12 to 15.5 cm (4.7 to 6.1 inches). This species displays sexual dimorphism. For example, males have large "horns" on their heads and have a much smoother body texture than females. Dynastes neptunus is similar to the Hercules beetle, but it is larger and has slender, curved horns. This species is distributed in northwestern South America, found in the countries of Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
