The northern puffback, with the scientific name Dryoscopus gambensis (Lichtenstein, 1823), is a bird species that belongs to the family Malaconotidae. This species occurs in northern sub-Saharan Africa. It forms a superspecies with the black-backed puffback, a species that replaces the northern puffback in eastern equatorial and southern Africa. The natural habitats of the northern puffback are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, and moist savanna.
