About Drynaria rigidula (Sw.) Bedd.
Drynaria rigidula (Sw.) Bedd. is a tropical fern species belonging to the genus Drynaria. It has a wide distribution across Southeast Asia, ranging from Southwest China to Queensland and New South Wales in Australia. This species grows as either an epiphyte or a lithophyte, and its green fronds can reach up to 1.22 metres (4 ft 0 in) in length. The fern produces two distinct types of fronds. Shorter, sterile, rust-colored fronds grow near the base of the plant, forming a basket-like structure that traps moisture and organic material to nourish the fern. This basket structure serves as ideal habitat for animals such as the Amethystine python, particularly during colder weather. The rhizomes of D. rigidula are sometimes used as a folk remedy in traditional medicine. They are confirmed to have some antioxidant properties, but pharmacological studies have not yet identified valid, evidence-based medical applications for the species.
