About Drosophila immigrans Sturtevant, 1921
Drosophila immigrans, formally described by Sturtevant in 1921, is a species of vinegar fly that belongs to the family Drosophilidae. It is classified within the Immigrans-tripunctata radiation of the subgenus Drosophila. This species is related to the Drosophila quinaria and Drosophila testacea species groups, as well as to Drosophila albomicans, another member of the Immigrans species group. Drosophila immigrans has been employed in evolutionary studies focused on understanding how viruses co-evolve with their hosts.
