About Drepanacra binocula (Newman, 1838)

Australian variable lacewings, scientifically named Drepanacra binocula (Newman, 1838), are typically found living among colonies of the insect prey they feed on. This lacewing has been observed feeding on a variety of prey hosts, including insects in the family Psyllidae, spruce aphids, pine aphids, whiteflies, Eriosoma lanigerum, and Trioza vitreoradiata. Drepanacra binocula can be identified by the distinct shape and brown color of its wings. This species has been established in New Zealand since at least 1930. A parasitic wasp, the lacewing parasitoid wasp Anacharis zealandica, uses Drepanacra binocula as a host.
