About Draco volans Linnaeus, 1758
Draco volans Linnaeus, 1758 (common flying dragon) reaches a maximum total length of 22 cm (8.7 in), including the tail. Its body is tan with dark flecks. Males have a patagium ranging from tan to bright orange, marked with dark banding. Females have irregular markings on their patagium instead of banding. This species lives in Southeast Asian tropical rainforests. It is most commonly encountered in early second-growth forests, open secondary forests, and along forest edges. For reproduction, female common flying dragons dig a soil hole to use as a nest, where they lay their eggs.
