About Dracaena surculosa Lindl.
Dracaena surculosa Lindl. is a branched shrub or small tree. It usually grows under 4 m tall, and occasionally reaches up to 8 m in height. It has reddish brown tuberous roots, which sometimes produce canelike shoots. These shoots are sometimes covered in thin greenish to white prophylls. Its leaves are either concolorous or variegated, with a glossy bright to dark green upper surface that is sometimes spotted with white to yellowish dots. Leaves are arranged in pseudowhorls, and their margins can be either rough or smooth. Each leaf has an acuminate apex and a cuneate base. Leaves can grow up to 20 cm long and 7 cm wide, and have an elliptic shape. The flowers of this species are greenish to white. Fruits are orange to bright red, globose, and can reach up to 2 cm in diameter. This species naturally occurs in West Africa, ranging from Guinea west through to Cameroon.
