About Doto pita Er.Marcus, 1955

Doto pita, described by Er. Marcus in 1955, has a translucent white body with brown spots located at the base of its cerata. Its digestive gland is cream in color, and the cerata themselves have a distinctly irregular appearance. The maximum recorded body length for this species is 7 millimeters. This species is found in the Caribbean Sea and the tropical western Atlantic Ocean, ranging from Brazil north to Florida. Published records of Doto pita from Japan and New Zealand are thought to either be instances of accidental human-mediated transport, or simple misidentifications of other species. The species occurs in depths ranging from 0 meters (the minimum recorded depth) to 25 meters (the maximum recorded depth).
