About Doto lancei Ev.Marcus & Er.Marcus, 1967
Doto lancei is a species in the genus Doto, first described by Ev. Marcus and Er. Marcus in 1967. Individuals of this species have cream-colored bodies, with large areas of dark brown or black pigment covering the back and sides. Their most well-developed ceratal tubercles have rings of dark pigment at their bases, plus a dark spot at the tip. This species was first scientifically described from material collected on the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. It has been recorded along the Pacific coast of North America, ranging from San Diego in the north, southward to Costa Rica. In its ecology, Doto lancei feeds on hydroids of the genus Aglaophenia, which belong to the family Aglaopheniidae.
