About Dosinia exoleta (Linnaeus, 1758)

Dosinia exoleta (Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of bivalve mollusc. The shell of a full-grown adult of this species reaches a maximum size of 60 millimetres (2.4 inches). Shells are typically white, yellowish, or pale brown, marked with darker blotches. They have a circular shape, with a concentric sculpture formed by fine ribs. The meat of Dosinia exoleta is said to have a very good flavour. This species occurs in the Boreal-Atlantic zone and the Mediterranean Sea. It inhabits the lower shore and muddy flats, and can be found at depths down to around 100 metres (330 feet).
