About Doronicum grandiflorum Lam.
Doronicum grandiflorum Lam. is a European species of the genus Doronicum in the family Asteraceae. It is a perennial herb that grows 10–40 cm (4–16 inches) tall, and produces numerous yellow flower heads, each borne singly on a hairy stalk. Its large, egg-shaped (ovate) basal ground leaves have toothed margins and are held by long, narrow petioles. Leaves are also borne alternately along the lower half of the flowering stems; these stem leaves clasp the stem and range in shape from ovate to lanceolate. All leaves are very densely covered in both glandular and non-glandular hairs. The flower heads are 4–6 cm (1.5–2.5 inches) wide, and contain both yellow ray flowers and yellow disc flowers. This species blooms from July through August. D. grandiflorum is native to mountainous areas between 1400 and 3400 m in altitude in the Alps, Pyrenees, and northern Balkans, occurring across Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Albania, Romania, and the western Balkans. It grows in limestone rubble and gravel, like that found on eroding mountain slopes.
