About Dormitator latifrons (Richardson, 1844)

Dormitator latifrons, commonly known as the Pacific fat sleeper, is a fish species belonging to the family Eleotridae. It occurs along the Pacific coast of the Americas, ranging from the area around Palos Verdes, California, south to Peru. This species inhabits stagnant or slow-moving fresh water, brackish water, and nearby marine waters. Males of this species can grow to a length of 41 cm (16 in), while females reach up to 39 cm (15 in). Most individual Dormitator latifrons do not grow longer than 25 cm (9.8 in). The maximum recorded weight for this species is 1.2 kg (2.6 lb). Dormitator latifrons is an important species for local commercial fisheries and is actively farmed.
