This species of nudibranch, Doriopsilla areolata Bergh, 1880, can reach a maximum length of 40 mm. Its mantle varies in color from translucent cream to orange or brown, and it is typically marked with an irregular pattern of white lines. The rhinophores range in color from pale yellow to orange, and the gills are also yellow to orange. This species was first described from specimens collected in the Adriatic Sea, which is located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
