About Dorcus miwai Benesh, 1936

Dorcus miwai (full scientific name Dorcus miwai Benesh, 1936) is a species of stag beetle endemic to Taiwan. This species is small in size. Individuals may become aggressive when provoked, but they are less aggressive than Dorcus titanus beetles. In captivity with appropriate care, Dorcus miwai can live between 1 and 2 years, and they are generally easy to keep in captivity. Their diet in the wild is primarily made up of fruits and tree sap. In captive settings, they will readily eat commercially sold pet beetle jelly. High-water-content fruits such as grapes and watermelons are unsuitable for this species, because the beetles may drown in these foods.
