About Doodia australis (Parris) Parris

Doodia australis (Parris) Parris is a fern that is covered in dense black scales. It can be told apart from other Doodia species native to New Zealand by the pinkish red color of its new fronds. This fern is distributed across New Zealand, where it occurs on the North Island, Kermadec Islands, Manawatāwhi / Three Kings Islands, and the northern South Island. It can also be found in Australia, on Norfolk Island, and on Lord Howe Island. Doodia australis favors coastal or lowland sites, and it can sometimes grow as a weed in urban environments.
