About Dombeya wallichii (Lindl.) Benth. & Hook.fil.
Dombeya wallichii (Lindl.) Benth. & Hook.fil. can reach 20 to 30 feet in height, with a spread of up to 25 feet (7.6 m). It bears alternately arranged, heart-shaped leaves with serrated edges. Its hanging flower clusters are pink, showy, and fragrant. This species is native to eastern Madagascar. Its full natural distribution is not well understood, but wild specimens have been collected from just two coastal streamside locations on Madagascar’s eastern coast: Antalaha on the northeastern coast, and Mandena on the southeastern coast. It has been introduced by humans to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Marianas, Mauritius, southwestern Mexico, Réunion, Thailand, and the Windward Islands, where it has naturalized. Dombeya wallichii is widely grown as a garden plant. This species can be crossed with Dombeya burgessiae to produce the hybrid Dombeya × cayeuxii.
