About Dolycoris baccarum (Linnaeus, 1758)
Dolycoris baccarum (Linnaeus, 1758) adults reach a body length of approximately 10–12.5 millimetres (0.39–0.49 inches). The base color of the pronotum and elytra varies widely, but is typically reddish purple, while the scutellum is ochre. In winter, the overall basic color changes to dull brown. The entire body is quite hairy. The antennae have 4 to 5 alternating black and white segments, and the connexivum – the margins of the abdomen – has alternating pale white and black patches. Males and females of this species look very similar. A closely related species found in Europe is Dolycoris numidicus. This shield bug species is widely distributed across most of Europe and Central Asia. It primarily lives in hedgerows, woodland edges, fields, forests, parks, and gardens.
