About Dogania subplana (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1809)

Description: Adult Dogania subplana can reach a carapace length of 35 cm (13.7 in). They have a large, muscular head, and a flat carapace with straight sides. Juveniles have reddish coloring on the sides of the neck, along with a few round black ocelli (spots) on the carapace. These markings fade and become unclear as the turtles age. Geographic range: This species occurs in Brunei, Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan), Malaysia (West Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak), Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore. Habitat: Dogania subplana prefers habitats with clean running water, specifically in rocky streams located at higher elevations.
