About Dodonaea triangularis Lindl.
Dodonaea triangularis Lindl. is a spreading shrub that is typically dioecious, and rarely polygamodioecious. It usually grows to a maximum height of 3 metres (9.8 feet). This species has simple leaves, which are generally 12โ35 millimetres (0.47โ1.38 inches) long and 6โ30 millimetres (0.24โ1.18 inches) wide, borne on a petiole 1โ3 millimetres (0.039โ0.118 inches) long. The leaves are usually egg-shaped or lance-shaped with the narrower end at the base, and most have three teeth or lobes at the tip. Flowers are arranged in cymes of 3 to 6 that grow in leaf axils, and sometimes grow at the ends of branches. Each flower is borne on a pedicel 3.5โ10 millimetres (0.14โ0.39 inches) long. Flowers usually have four lance-shaped sepals 1.2โ3 millimetres (0.047โ0.118 inches) long, 6 to 8 stamens, and an ovary that is densely covered in soft hairs. The fruit is a three- or four-angled capsule that is roughly spherical or egg-shaped. It is mostly 6โ9 millimetres (0.24โ0.35 inches) long and 8.5โ11.5 millimetres (0.33โ0.45 inches) wide, with leathery or crusty lobes 1โ2 millimetres (0.039โ0.079 inches) wide.
This species of Dodonaea grows in forest or woodland on granitic and sandstone soils in the ranges, occurring between the Townsville area of Queensland and far north-eastern New South Wales. There is an apparent disjunct population of the species in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
