About Dodonaea stenozyga F.Muell.
Dodonaea stenozyga F.Muell. is an upright, rounded shrub that grows up to 1.5 meters (4 feet 11 inches) tall. It has paripinnate leaves that are 1â3.8 cm (0.39â1.50 in) long, borne on a petiole 9.5â20 mm (0.37â0.79 in) long. Each leaf holds 2 to 6 linear leaflets, which measure 8â13.5 mm (0.31â0.53 in) long, have rounded tips, and sometimes have slightly downward-curled edges. Flowers usually grow in pairs or groups of three, and each flower sits on a pedicel 4â8.5 mm (0.16â0.33 in) long. The flowers have four oval-shaped sepals, 1.5â3.2 mm (0.059â0.126 in) long, that fall off early. Flowering of this species has been recorded in September. The fruit is a 4-winged capsule, broadly elliptic to broadly egg-shaped, measuring 8.5â14.5 mm (0.33â0.57 in) long and 10â17 mm (0.39â0.67 in) wide. Its wings are 3â6.5 mm (0.12â0.26 in) wide, and the capsule is smooth and leathery. Commonly called desert hop-bush, this species grows in semi-arid areas, in mallee scrub or open woodland, across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia.
