About Dodecatheon alpinum (A.Gray) Greene
Scientific name: Dodecatheon alpinum (A.Gray) Greene, also referred to as Primula tetrandra. This species is a partially aquatic thick-rooted perennial herb. It often grows along bog edges and in shallow, slow rivulets. It produces a cluster of narrow, straight leaves at its base. It bears erect, slim, tall dark-colored stems, which are topped with inflorescences holding one or more showy flowers. Newly opened flowers nod with their mouth facing the ground, and become more erect as they age. Each flower has four reflexed sepals that are bright pink or lavender, and these sepals lie back against the flower body. The sepals may have white or yellow bases that rim the corolla. Large black anthers and a thready stigma protrude from the mouth of the corolla. This species flowers from June to August.
