About Dives atroviolaceus (Orbigny, 1839)

This species measures 27 cm (11 inches) in length. It has completely black plumage, with a faint violet sheen visible on its upperparts. The only body part that is not black is its brown eye. This bird is endemic to Cuba, where it is widespread and common across the main island. It is not found on Isla de la Juventud or some of Cuba’s offshore cays. Its natural habitats are lowland moist forests and heavily degraded former forest.
