About Diversidoris crocea (Rudman, 1986)
This species of nudibranch, Diversidoris crocea, is typically less than 50 millimeters (2.0 inches) long. It has a yellow body with a pale mantle margin, and two semi-permanent mantle folds around the mid-section of its body. Both its rhinophores and branchia (gills) are also yellow. Identifying individual yellow sea slugs within the genus Diversidoris can be difficult, because many related species have yellow forms that mimic their yellow sponge food. Diversidoris crocea occurs in the tropical western Pacific, including Indonesia, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands, and Guam, and ranges south as far as Queensland, Australia. This nudibranch is often found on the yellow sponge Darwinella, which appears to be its preferred food source.
