About Disporum viridescens (Maxim.) Nakai
Disporum viridescens (Maxim.) Nakai is a species of flowering plant belonging to the genus Disporum. Like other species in this genus, it grows from a rhizome. Mature plants reach between 30 and 80 cm (12 to 31 in) in height, and their stems may branch. Its leaves are roughly ovate in shape, and each leaf has a very short petiole (leaf stalk). One or two open flowers grow at the tips of stems; these flowers have greenish white tepals that are 1.5 to 2 cm (0.59 to 0.79 in) long. This species flowers from late spring to early summer, which corresponds to May to June in the northern hemisphere. Several months after flowering, black berries roughly 1 cm (0.39 in) in diameter develop. It grows in woodland areas and on grassy slopes at altitudes up to 600 m (2,000 ft), and can be found in northeastern China, eastern Russia, Japan, and Korea.
