About Discosoma nummiforme Rüppell & Leuckart, 1828

Discosoma nummiforme has a pentagonal disk that rarely grows larger than 2 inches in diameter. This small size is offset by the wide range of rich colors wild specimens of this species display. Both the disk and its supporting column are typically a deep purple-brown. The tentacles of this species are almost entirely sessile and spheroidal in shape. They sometimes appear a bright brilliant emerald-green, though the tentacles located closer to the inner center of the animal match the purple-brown color of the disk and column.
