About Disa hallackii Rolfe
Disa hallackii Rolfe is a perennial geophyte that belongs to the Disa genus and is a member of the fynbos vegetation. This species is endemic to South Africa's Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces, with a distribution ranging from the Cape Flats to Port Elizabeth. It grows in low-elevation coastal areas. Only eight to ten subpopulations of Disa hallackii remain, as the species has lost significant habitat to development and crop cultivation. No existing subpopulation contains more than 150 individual plants, and the species' total global population is fewer than 1000 individual plants. Additional threats to Disa hallackii include invasive plant species, further habitat development from human activity, road shoulder maintenance activities, and overgrazing.
