About Dipsas indica Laurenti, 1768

Dipsas indica, commonly called the neotropical snail-eater, is a species of snake native to South America. This snake feeds on slugs and snails. It uses its slender jaw to extract snail soft tissue out of their shells. Currently, two recognized subspecies of Dipsas indica exist: Dipsas indica indica (first described by Laurenti in 1768) and Dipsas indica ecuadoriensis (described by Peters in 1960).
