About Diospyros humilis (R.Br.) F.Muell.
Diospyros humilis, commonly called Queensland ebony, is a small tree native to eastern Australia. Its range spans most of Queensland, and extends into northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. It occurs most frequently in coastal and semi-arid zones, growing in vine scrubs, brigalow woodlands, and other areas that experience infrequent fire. This species grows as either a small tree or a shrub, and bears stiff, glossy leaves that are discolorous. Its foliage is arranged in distinctive clusters. Shrubs that develop into tree form typically have a distinctly pyramidal shape. The ripe fruit are oval, and range in color from bright yellow to orange-red, and contain a single seed. Its timber is valued for use in woodturning and fine cabinetry.
