About Dioscorea sylvatica Eckl.
Dioscorea sylvatica Eckl. produces a distinctively flattened caudex, which often has spreading lobes. Its creeping shoots grow for most of the year, but each shoot periodically dies back and is replaced from the central caudex rootstock. It can become deciduous in drier conditions. Its green creeping foliage can reach a height of 4 meters or more. This is an extremely widespread and variable species, with several very distinct varieties.
