About Dioscorea hastifolia Nees

Dioscorea hastifolia Nees, commonly called adjigo yam and also known as warram, is a species of yam native to Southwest Australia. This plant grows as a climbing vine with spear-shaped hastate leaves, produces yellow flowers, and bears green triangular fruit. It forms long, white, edible tubers. Aboriginal Australians use the tubers as a source of carbohydrates, and have long managed this plant extensively in agriculture-like systems. Harvesting takes place in winter, after the yellow flowers have produced seeds, and the harvested tubers are roasted before eating.
