About Diloma bicanaliculatum (Dunker, 1845)

Diloma bicanaliculatum, commonly known as the knobbed top shell, is a species of small sea snail. It is a marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to Trochidae, the top snail family. The shell of this species grows to between 10 mm and 20 mm in size. This marine species is endemic to New Zealand, where it is found off the coasts of North Island, South Island, and Stewart Island. A former subspecies, Diloma bicanaliculata Lenoir, was previously used to classify specimens found between Cook Strait and Stewart Island. This subspecies is not recognized on the World Register of Marine Species, so it may no longer be considered a valid taxon.
