Dideopsis aegrota is a large species of hover fly. It has dark red eyes and a dark scutum. Its scutellum is yellow and somewhat transparent. The second abdominal tergite (Tergite 2) has two yellowish oval markings, while the third (T3) and fourth (T4) abdominal tergites have yellow bands. The fore and mid legs are yellow, and the hind (rear) legs are black-brown. Its wings are dark overall with a translucent tip, a feature that distinguishes Dideopsis aegrota from other hover fly species.
