About Dicyrtoma fusca (J.Lubbock, 1873)

Dicyrtoma fusca (J.Lubbock, 1873) is a species of springtail found in the United States and Europe. This species has an overall reddish coloration, with two intersecting dorsal stripes that form a cross shape on its back. Lighter individuals are yellowish red, while darker individuals are dark red; the lighter yellow form is classified as Dicyrtoma fusca Var 1. This species has a recognized subspecies, Dicyrtoma fusca var. rufescens, which shares the distinct pronged antenna characteristic of the Dicyrtoma genus. Dicyrtoma fusca var. rufescens is predominantly found in Europe, and can be identified by its discolored yellowish eyes and dark red patterning.
