About Dictyophara europaea (Linnaeus, 1767)

Dictyophara europaea (Linnaeus, 1767) is a species of planthopper. Adults reach a body length of approximately 9–13 mm (0.35–0.51 in). Individuals have an ovoid light green body and a conical head that extends forward; the head has two strong longitudinal keels and a middle keel that converge at the tip. The pronotum also has a middle keel plus two lateral keels. Forewings and hindwings are roughly the same size. The wings are transparent (hyaline) with prominent green veining. Veins in the distal portion of the forewings form a network. Larvae resemble mature adult (imago) individuals in color, overall body shape, and head shape. The rarer subspecies Dictyophara europaea rosea has a pinkish body. This species is distributed across most of Europe, North Africa, and the eastern Palearctic realm, specifically recorded in Afghanistan, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Xinjiang. These insects live in dry grasslands and warm open areas.
