Dicksonia sellowiana (C.Presl) Hook. has an erect, cylindrical caudex that can sometimes grow more than 10 metres (33 feet) high. Its fronds are bipinnate and reach 2 metres (6 feet 7 inches) in length. This species is at risk of extinction due to illegal extraction. This fern is native to Southern Mexico, Central America, and South America. Within the South American Atlantic Forest biome, it occurs in several locations: in Southeastern Brazil it is found in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul; it also grows in the northeast of Argentina, specifically in Misiones Province, and in eastern Paraguay.
