About Dichomeris ventrellus (Fitch, 1856)

Dichomeris ventrellus (also referenced as Dichomeris ventrella) is a moth species in the family Gelechiidae. It was originally described by Asa Fitch, with the publication year cited as 1854 and the species authority dated 1856. This moth is found in North America, where it has been recorded across a range extending from Maine to Florida, and westward to Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wisconsin, and southern Arizona. The wingspan of this species is approximately 17 mm. Its forewings are pale ash-gray with a faint reddish tint, and its hindwings are shiny pale grayish. The larvae of Dichomeris ventrellus feed on species from the genera Castanea (specifically Castanea dentata), Betula, Carpinus, Corylus, Carya, and Quercus. The larvae roll the leaves of their host plants for shelter or feeding.
