About Dichomeris ustalella (Fabricius, 1794)
Dichomeris ustalella (Fabricius, 1794) is a species of moth belonging to the family Gelechiidae. This species has a recorded distribution across south-eastern Siberia, the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Korea, Japan, China, specifically the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Yunnan, and Europe. In Europe, it has been recorded across most of the continent, with the exception of Ireland, the Iberian Peninsula and Scandinavia. The wingspan of adult Dichomeris ustalella measures 15–20 mm, which equals 0.59–0.79 inches. Adult moths are active and on wing during the months of May and June. The larvae of this species feed on a variety of plant taxa: Tilia cordata, Corylus heterophylla var. thunbergii, Betula species, Carpinus species, Acer species, Fagus silvatica, and Quercus serrata. Larvae feed while sheltered between leaves that they have spun together. Pupation of this species occurs among detritus on the ground.
