About Dichomeris georgiella (Walker, 1866)
Dichomeris georgiella is a species of moth that belongs to the family Gelechiidae. This species was first described by Francis Walker in 1866. It is native to North America, where its recorded range extends from south-eastern Canada and Maine in the north, south to Florida, and west to Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois. It has also been recorded from Colorado and Arizona. The wingspan of Dichomeris georgiella ranges from 19 to 21 mm. Its forewings are light ochreous fuscous, sprinkled with black scales. The costal edge is narrowly and faintly tinted with brick red. At the end of the cell, there is a small, inconspicuous second white discal spot that is edged in black. A similar, even less conspicuous dot made of a few scales is present in the middle of the cell. A very faint row of black dots runs along the terminal edge, which is slightly darker than the rest of the wing. The hindwings are light fuscous. Adults of this species can be found in flight from March to October. The larvae of Dichomeris georgiella feed on Quercus coccinea and Quercus rubra.
