About Dichomeris costarufoella (Chambers, 1874)
Dichomeris costarufoella is a species of moth in the Gelechiidae family. It was first described by Vactor Tousey Chambers in 1874. This moth is found in North America, with recorded occurrences ranging from Illinois and Louisiana to Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Manitoba. The wingspan of Dichomeris costarufoella is approximately 12 mm. Its forewings are dark gray to black, and bear a yellowish-brown basal patch that extends roughly halfway along the costa as a tapering streak. Several small pale spots are present in the median area of the forewings, and a larger irregularly shaped spot can be found in the postmedial area. The subterminal line of the forewings is blackish, diffuse, and inconspicuous. The moth's hindwings are whitish or pale gray. Adult Dichomeris costarufoella are active on the wing from April through October. The larvae of this moth feed on plant species in the Rudbeckia genus.
