About Dichomeris capnites (Meyrick, 1904)
Dichomeris capnites is a species of moth that belongs to the Gelechiidae family. It is native to Australia, with confirmed recorded populations in Queensland and South Australia. This moth has a wingspan ranging from 16 to 20 millimeters, which equals 0.63 to 0.79 inches. Its forewings are colored fuscous (a dark brownish-gray shade), with faint, indistinct dark fuscous strigulation (fine streaks). The costa, or leading edge of the forewing, has a rosy pink tinge on its basal third. The forewings also feature a dark fuscous dot at the base, and an unclear dark fuscous spot in the disc at one-fourth the wing length from the base. The wing's stigmata are fairly large, very unclear, and dark fuscous, with the plical stigma positioned slightly obliquely forward of the first discal stigma. The hindwings are fuscous, and become darker toward the posterior end of the wing. The larvae of Dichomeris capnites feed on the leaves of plants in the Acronychia genus.
