Baum in 1967 rejected Hitchcock's 1908 choice of a Kalm collection as the type of Dichanthelium latifolium on spurious grounds, while the Kalm collection is original material and Hitchcock's choice has priority.
Note: In 1967, Baum (in Canad. J. Bot. 45: 1847) rejected Hitchcock's selection of a Kalm collection as the type. The reason given was that Kalm's name was not explicitly mentioned in the protologue, but this reason is unfounded. The Kalm collection is clearly original material for this name, and Hitchcock's 1908 type choice has priority.
