About Dibaeis baeomyces (L.f.) Rambold & Hertel

Dibaeis baeomyces is identifiable by its bulbous pink apothecia, which measure 1โ€“4 mm in diameter and grow on stalks no taller than 6 mm. Its thallus may be grey or white, and can have a pinkish tinge.

This lichen occurs across eastern North America, ranging from Alabama and Georgia in the south to the Arctic Circle in the north. It is present but rare in both Alaska and the Northwest Territories. It prefers to grow directly on unstable soils such as loose sand or dry clay, in full sun. It also favors acid soils over neutral or alkaline soils. It can spread quickly for a lichen on disturbed ground, which is one of its preferred habitat types.
