Dianthus broteri Boiss. & Reut. is a flowering plant species that belongs to Caryophyllaceae, the carnation family. It is native to Portugal and Spain, and it prefers to grow near coastlines. This species forms a complex of polyploid races. Different populations of the plant have been found to carry 2n=2x=30, 2n=4x=60, 2n=6x=90, and 2n=12x=180 chromosomes, and this is the largest polyploid series recorded in the Dianthus genus.
