About Diaethria neglecta (Salvin, 1869)

Diaethria neglecta (Salvin, 1869) has a wingspan reaching approximately 38 millimetres, or 1.5 inches. The uppersides of its wings are black. The forewings are marked with a diagonal band of metallic blue or green, and this same colouration appears as a submarginal band on the hindwings. The underside of the hindwing has a distinct pattern: black dots surrounded by concentric white and black lines that closely resemble the numbers "89" or "98". This is a common species that occurs in rainforests and cloudforests between 200 and 1700 metres in elevation, ranging from Panama to Bolivia. Its habitat coincides with the range of its larval foodplant, Trema from the family Cannabaceae.
