About Dexia rustica (Fabricius, 1775)
Dexia rustica (Fabricius, 1775) is a species of small tachinid fly. Adults reach a body length of 8.4–12.7 millimetres (0.33–0.50 in) and have a wingspan of 16–24 mm. This species generally has a black thorax covered in grayish yellow pruinosity, with four longitudinal black vittae on the dorsal surface. The abdomen is either greyish-brown or reddish, with a more or less distinct darker longitudinal marking along its dorsal side. The abdomen is shaped cylindric-conic, and has two setae on each segment. The proboscis is short and membranous. Female Dexia rustica are usually darker in color than males. The wings are hyaline, with a reddish yellow tegula and a dark brown basicosta. The legs are reddish yellow.
This species is distributed across the British Isles, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Iran, Israel, Mongolia, Russia, and Transcaucasia. These tachinids typically live in hedgerows and flowery environments.
