About Deutzia crenata Siebold & Zucc.
Deutzia crenata Siebold & Zucc. is a species of flowering deciduous shrub in the hydrangea family, Hydrangeaceae. It is native to Japan, where it is commonly known throughout the country as unohana (卯の花, which literally translates to "flower of the Month of the Rabbit"). Its natural habitat is forest edges and cliffs. It has been widely cultivated outside of its native range, and has become naturalized from intentional plantings in China and North America. This species has opposite, dentate, somewhat thickened leaves that are not noticeably dimorphic (a difference from the related species Deutzia scabra), and are borne on short petioles along the entire length of the stem. Additionally, all filaments of Deutzia crenata are toothed. In its native Japan, Deutzia crenata produces flowers from May to July. A double-flowered form (forma plena) is popular for growing in gardens.
