About Desmognathus brimleyorum Stejneger, 1895

Desmognathus brimleyorum, commonly known as the Ouachita dusky salamander, reaches a total length of about 17.8 centimetres (7.0 in), which includes a finned tail. Its dorsal upper side is a fairly uniform greenish-brown or grey. Juveniles of this species have a row of pale spots running along each side of their body. Fourteen costal rib grooves are present on either side of the salamander. This species is found in mountainous regions of Arkansas and Oklahoma, United States. Its documented range covers the Ouachita Mountains, Petit Jean Mountain, Rich Mountain, Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area, Black Fork Mountain Wilderness, Kiamichi Mountains, and the Potato Hills located north of Tuskahoma. Ouachita dusky salamanders inhabit mountain streams and the adjacent ravines, nearby woodland, scree slopes, gravelly areas, stream islands, and areas close to springs.
